Happy Solstice
Unfortunately the photos from this old post have been lost
Today was Winter Solstice and what a beautiful day it was. I watched the moon rise yesterday evening and observed her journey across the evening sky, knowing there would be a full lunar eclipse this morning.
I thought that it was quite something to have a full moon for Solstice, then to have a lunar eclipse happening too is particularly special. The sunset last evening was really beautiful, we don’t get to see the sun setting from where we live, however we do see the colours of the sunset as they are reflected in the evening sky.
The last week has been amazing. The snow came on Thursday, just a light dusting here, no more than an inch with real snow on Friday. Because the moon has been filling all week the nights have incredible, the bright moonlight reflecting off the snow and the stars sparkling up above.
It’s really beautiful here this week during the sunny bright snowy days however it is even more beautiful here at night and anytime I have put my nose outside the door at night I just have to go for a little walk.
And so the longest night has passed and now the days lengthen. Christmas is at the end of the week and all pressures are relieved for us because of the weather. There is nowhere we have to go and nothing we have to do, just feed the fire, feed the cats, feed ourselves, walk and enjoy the snowy quiet of the hills in mid-winter.
Happy Solstice to you all, may the returning light bring strength and inspiration into your life.
How lovely, Scrib. It occurred to me that so often we are far removed from the events of the world that are not human made. Jerry and I got up at 1:30 a.m. to have a glimpse of the eclipse. Then, I had a hard time going back to sleep and was so sleepy at work all day. But I didn’t regret it. This is a time of settling in and reflecting. January feels good to me always. Miss May, the cat, goes from door to door and only reluctantly goes out now. She’s waiting for the “door into summer” I suppose. Wishing you peace and beauty.
Those are wonderful pictures! I hope to see an update here soon! I love the winter, but after several large snow storms here in Utah and some near 0 degree Fahrenheit temps at night, I am almost ready for the spring to arrive!
